All wheel drive or AWD

Goal: Better on-road handling stability.

What is AWD? Well, its just a play with words. All wheel drive (AWD) is the same thing as full time 4WD - without the "low range" transfer case setting.

Low range is a setting useful for off-road and pulling heavy trailers. That's why you would not find it in a mini van with AWD.

I wrote that AWD is a play with words because a military truck with 6 wheels and six wheel drive (6x6) is also an all wheel drive (AWD) vehicle - all wheels are driven. So the unique 2WD motorcycle Rokon is an AWD as well. But the industry chose to use the term AWD only for cars.
